Glaucoma Screenings
Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to the eye’s optic nerve, as a result of a buildup of fluid pressure inside the eye, leading to progressive vision loss if left undiagnosed or untreated. It is this increased pressure that causes damage to the optic nerve, affecting the transmission of visual information to the brain.
Regular glaucoma screenings are of great importance, especially in the over-40 age group and where there is a family history of glaucoma. Certain medical aids require regular checks in order for their members to qualify for rewards programmes. At Hilliar & Gray Optometrists, we offer a screening service where we measure your intra-ocular pressures and submit it to the relevant medical aid on your behalf.
